What is High Fructose Corn Syrup?
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is a sweetener made from corn starch. It has a few variations, primarily differing in the ratio of glucose to fructose. The most common types are HFCS-55 and HFCS-42, containing 55% and 42% fructose respectively.
HFCS is relatively inexpensive to produce compared to sucrose or natural sweeteners such as honey or maple syrup.
